As we know, marble is a beautiful yet fragile stone. Nonetheless, many homeowners still prefer to install it in their kitchens. Granite is a much harder natural stone and is very resistant, but it is much more expensive than marble. Quartz is also a non-porous stone like granite. It is very resistant to heat, does not get stained and scratched and keeps bacteria from contaminating your food. But, quartz is harder than granite, in fact twice as strong as granite. It is more expensive than marble but generally more affordable than granite. Granite is the “in” thing right now in kitchen countertops, but it may be replaced by quartz in the coming years. Granite comes in gorgeous colors and patterns, but quartz also looks beautiful in the kitchen. Although granite is a very hard stone, if you do break it by sitting on it or hammering something on it, it is very expensive to repair. Quartz is made up of both natural stone and man-made products, which make it very resistant and at the same time, beautiful to look at.
Basically it all comes down to your personal preference and budget when you are trying to choose a countertop for your kitchen or bathroom. Both quartz and granite are a better option for kitchen countertops and marble is preferred for bathroom countertops. If installed in the kitchen, marble countertops have to be maintained regularly, whereas granite and quartz require less maintenance.
